Musar for I Samuel 18:7
וַֽתַּעֲנֶ֛ינָה הַנָּשִׁ֥ים הַֽמְשַׂחֲק֖וֹת וַתֹּאמַ֑רְןָ הִכָּ֤ה שָׁאוּל֙ באלפו [בַּאֲלָפָ֔יו] וְדָוִ֖ד בְּרִבְבֹתָֽיו׃
And the women sang one to another in their play, and said: Saul hath slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.

What caused Shaul to begin to ambush David? Only honor as written: "And the women sang to one another as they celebrated: 'Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his tens of thousands'... And Saul eyed David from that day on" (Shmuel 18:7-9).
